Catherine Alfonas's Story

“As a 53 year old single mother, I want to set an example for my daughters; of the importance of economic independence and always keeping the door to knowledge open”

In the heart of ‘Youhanabad, Catherine Alfonas’ stationery store stands as a beacon of resilience, operated by a single mother dodging the male-dominated norms of Pakistan’s marketplace. Despite societal pressures, she has integrated the power of digitization and social media with CIRCLE’s Digital Literacy Program, carving a path of empowerment amidst adversity.

With determination, Catherine navigated financial hardships and societal biases by embracing digital tools like Jazz Cash and Canva. By moving her business interactions online, she not only streamlined operations but also alleviated the burden of constant societal scrutiny.

Looking ahead, Catherine dreams of expanding her stationery shop into a one-stop destination for school supplies, defying gender stereotypes and empowering her community. As she leads by example, instilling the value of independence in her daughters, Catherine’s journey symbolises the strength and innovation of women in Pakistan’s evolving economic landscape.

Kinza Roma's Story

Meet Kinza Roma, a resilient 32 year-old who is turning her experience of religious discrimination into digital empowerment. Kinza Kreations, her YouTube channel on home decor, recycling, and product reviews, was monetized in 2019 but Kinza “lacked digital awareness” to leverage this.

Since joining CIRCLE’s Nano Influencer Training Academy she is learning essential skills like media kits, audience engagement, and the importance of being consistent on social media. As a current trainee of the Nano Influencer Academy, she’s already confident in her digital potential to promote sustainable home organisation techniques and to build interfaith harmony and tolerance across all social media platforms.

Kinza envisions a future where remote areas with marginalised communities have access to digital tools. Driven by her own journey, she hopes to bridge divides one post at a time.

Sajid Rafiq( Sajo) Story

“The Digital Acceleration Training changed my life in ways I never imagined. It’s not just about what I learned for myself, but how it helped others in my community too. Education really is important for making a difference.” –  M. Sajid Rafiq (Known as Sajo), a 32-year-old who runs an embroidery business, joined the Digital Acceleration Program offered by the CIRCLE Women Association.

In 2023, he got into a four-day program because he loves learning new things. He did so well that he got into an even more advanced training. With his new digital skills, Sajo’s businesses, like his salon and embroidery shop, did really well all over Pakistan. His success didn’t just help him but also gave opportunities to transgender people in his community. This shows how much of a difference education and empowerment programs can make for everyone.
